master study 4

this is the original. what i like about it are all the effect that seem to be going on. The glows and lighting make it look like the piece is moving and i would like to capture that in my next assignment

orginal 3

sorry it took so long. i started over like 4 different times. Plus i found all my imagineFX cds and i have just ben playing with all the brush's and making variations of them to. i got this really cool; set of waterfall brush out of it. that is what i started with this one. i layered a bunch of waterfall styled brush's over eachother. then i ran a dark layer under it. I grabbed a photo refrence on stlyed the rocks off it

study 3 environment

This is my third master study and there were 3 things i liked about it. 1 is that it was not a portrait, 2 it has a environment i have address, and 3 it dose not have allot of smooth gradations like i have been working with

Project 2 w.i.p. day 2

Did a lot of work on this today. I wound up changing the pose altogether. I found it vary unflattering and felt i needed a better pose. I also made a background by just using a cloud brush i have and painted with 3 colors. I started on the vinyl shine of the cloths as well. All i did so far was get the form down. Then on one layer I ran wight over the highlighted part and on another i ran black over the darkest parts then used a gaussian blur on both layers. It still has alot to go but i feel it was a few steps in the right direction.

Project 2 w.i.p.

To start off i would like to respond to prof. Babcock question on my last entry. With this piece i was looking all the reflectiveness of the latex the shine of the hair and the shin the skin. I was also looking at the over all style of the artist. Serge Birault is really great at making cartoon versions of people. The image i am posting is the start of my attempting to copy his process as he explains it in Imagine FX's march 2010 issue

ok so here is my study. I know it is not perfect but i feel like i got the idea of what i wanted to learn from this study so i think it is time to move on.

master study o far

this is the original
this is my copy so far
still working on it. hopefully i will be done with it and on to my own interpretation by the end of the night.

So i saw the tutorial for today and attempted to copy the results. it turned out looking more like a robot with the skin being turned into armor plating but i still could not get the reflection to look right. Although as i worked through the process the vest became alot more metallic looking.

2 hr. Photoshop Bonanza

ok so here is my 2 hr drawing for the topic that jeff and Candice came up with. I guess it was just supposed to Cryptic but i did not know that till i was done. I have to say even-though the anatomy is off it turned out pretty good for the time i had

Robo Girl... Idk?

this is the one i don't really like
This is the one I like more
The more i tried the technique with the reflective quality the more i realized i set my self up for disaster using skin tones and making her look like a person. Every time i tied to make it look reflective (witch skin is not) it turned out looking like i just used a filter in photoshop to overlay the image. I grayed up the skin and it helped a little but i still like it as just a simple portrait more then a robot character witch is what i was going for at the start.

Day 2 w.i.p.

Ok so i worked some more on rendering the figure. I also laid down the base metal for the shirt. I do have one question... dose the same password work for all the tutorials? I tried using the digstudio password to watch one of the tutorials but it said it was the wrong password. i even tried copying and pasting the password in. Anyway placing the reflection is pretty much all i have left to do. I say that but i am sure i will spend all weekend working on it in other spots as well

Robo Girl

K so i spent tall of yesterday working on ideas and got nothing. So i started working today on a portrait and thought of a way to incorporate what the reflective quality of Donato's robot into my portrait. Right now all i really have is the portrait part mostly rendered but i plan on making the cloths into the reflective metal to make a cyborg look to her.

Study #1

For my first study i found a pice by Donato Giancola Called Earth to Universe. I really like the reflective quality of the metal and though it would be a fun piece to do to start off.

Digital Studio Techniques

ok well here goes round two of this class. i felt like i grew so much from taking this last summer that i wanted to do it again. Last time i feel like i focused alot on figure and portraits and i would like to continue with that but i would like to try my hand at some environmental paintings this summer as well. I have spent this alot of off time collecting images that i have wanted to do studies off of and incorporate them into my work but felt i was always lacking time. Now i feel like i am going to have that chance.
I also thought i could work with trying to get a digital inking style down this summer. I have talked to several members of comic book club and we have a idea of a super hero comic books series we would like to put together. So doing studies will help in that project then it gets rolling.
Also Jeff and I were talking about having a illustration battle competition as some of you already know. We were talking about giving each round a short deadline so it would simulate having to do rush jobs. In turn i am starting tomorrow going to try and do at least two 2 hour paintings done a week on top of the master study and the original project.
I realize this is alot to do in a short weeks time but it can only help and i am ready to get this party started
